Community

In this section of our website we would like to share our close links with our local community, some visit our school on a regular basis and work closely with us to help make changes.

Harvest

Every year we celebrate Harvest and support elderly people in our community as well as providing provisions to our school food bank at The Well. We ask families to nominate someone elderly in the community to receive a food parcel and every year we are overwhelmed by the support.

St Helen’s Church

We are proud of the special bond we share with St. Helen’s Church. During the year Father McTeer takes part in our whole school assemblies to discuss important issues and share key messages from the church. Every year, children and staff attend an Easter and Christmas service, where many people from the local community come to listen to the children sing and read passages from the Bible. The children love taking part in the services, as they enjoy being in such a beautiful building.

Choir

Children from our school choir spread a joyous message throughout the local area every December. People old and young throughout the town enjoy listening to the children. Their performances have taken place at Barrington Lodge Care Home, Devonshire House Care Home, St Helen’s Care Home, The Well as well as Sainsbury’s.

Sports Clubs

Many of our pupils take part in after school clubs within school or within the local community. There are leaflets in school which give details of the times and days of local clubs. These clubs include cricket, dance, gymnastics, football, swimming, athletics, martial arts, badminton, fishing, table tennis etc. Children who attend clubs are encouraged to show their certificates and trophies in school assemblies. Junior club events in our area are on the Durham County Council website.
