Harvest Time

9th October 2020 By sabrinabarlow

Every year we celebrate Harvest and although it will be different this year, we still intend to do everything we can to celebrate Harvest in school, support elderly people in our community and provide provisions to our school food bank at The Well.

  • Every class is going to celebrate in their own way and we will be putting together a short video about Harvest to share with you on our app because sadly we will not be able to hold a Harvest Assembly in school this year.
  • Every year we ask you to nominate someone elderly in the community to receive a food parcel and although we cannot do this safely this year we are still going to ask you to nominate someone by filling in a form on the app. They will receive a voucher from us to use at The Well for a hot drink and a cake at some point over the next twelve months, when they feel it is safe for them to do so.
  • If you would like to donate any pre-packed (not fresh) food to this good cause, we will provide boxes at the school gates from Monday 12th October until Wednesday 21st October or you could send a small donation of money into school with your child which we will use to buy vouchers for those people nominated.

Thank you for your continued support.

Gem Power

9th October 2020 By sabrinabarlow

Gem Power

The children created some fantastic displays for the hall this term, the theme was Gem Power and how the children could demonstrate learning powers visually.

We use the ‘Gem Project’ which was introduced to our school by Dr Tom Robson. It centres around 6 gems, which link with learning powers. This project is designed to build on the work that we already do in school on building resilient, growth mindset, kind and independent learners. The different ‘Gems’ help the children to understand that no matter what they think their ability is, they can always improve.

World Book Day

6th March 2020 By emmadouthwaite

This year, we celebrated in two different ways. First of all, we asked all children to bring in their favourite book to share with the rest of their class. Secondly, as we are trying to increase our use of a wide range of vocabulary in school, instead of dressing up as a book character – children dressed up as a particular word.

Mini Police

11th February 2020 By emmadouthwaite

Class 5 have been working with Durham Agency Against Crime as part of their Mini Police scheme. Over the last few weeks they have been learning about anti-social behaviour and the role of the Police. They have even learned the phonetic alphabet.

Their assembly last week showed everyone the types of anti-social behaviour we should be looking out for in our community.

Children now have a role as a ‘Mini Police’ officer at play times to help keep everyone safe.
