In Science we are investigating different properties of materials. This week we were testing how well different metals conduct electricity by creating circuits.
Escomb Church Visit
Class 5 had a fantastic visit to Escomb Saxon Church on 3rd October. Mrs Beddow gave us a guided tour and told us all about how the Anglo-Saxons had built the church. We became detectives looking for clues that the Romans left in the stones (the stone was taken from the fort at Binchester once the Romans had left).
We had Newcastle University in Class 5 for their Campus Explorers activity on Friday 11th January. They were given a virtual tour of the campus and completed different activities linked with subjects you can study there for example marine biology and maths. The children really enjoyed it and were given a certificate for taking part.
Class 5 had a visit from Durham Palace Green Education team for a Vikings Day on Monday 11th February. They had a great time handling some of the objects, learning how to play Viking games and finding out about Viking runestones.
Class 5 assembly
Class 5 delivered an amazing assembly to children, parents and friends of the school on Friday 17th May 2019. The theme was the ‘Rainforest’ and the children delivered facts, retold a story and sang a song. Such an important issue delivered in a fun way.
The Northern Saints
On Wednesday 1st May, Class 5 had a visit from Auckland Trust to introduce their RE topic about the Northern Saints. They completed a timeline, heard stories about the Saints and then created a bookmark celebrating their lives. The class really enjoyed the afternoon and are ready to learn lots more about the Northern Saints.
