The Selfish Giant
The children had lots of fun on Wednesday 27th February 2019 watching ‘The Selfish Giant‘ by Image Theatre Productions. Their performance told the story of a giant who won’t share, he soon realises that it’s the children’s love that makes the garden grow and allows them to play in the garden. Based on a novel by Oscar Wilde. The children took part in all of the songs and some even had acting parts.
Educate and Celebrate Bake Off Final
We attended the Educate and Celebrate Durham final Bake Off on Monday 11th February. We had 3 hours to bake and decorate our cake around the theme of peace, activism and reconciliation. The judges were Miss Tess and Jaff from The Futureheads. Even though we didn’t win, Sophie and Macey had a brilliant day and enjoyed themselves.
Reading for Pleasure
The children at Copeland Road love to read, from Reception to Year 6 every child is encouraged to read for pleasure. We recognise that reading is so important and reading a wide range of texts can improve the quality of children’s writing. This half term the children designed book covers, wrote blurbs around their favourite stories and also wrote about why they enjoyed a particular book.

Copeland Road Football Team
Copeland Road have been crowned champions of the Bishop Auckland Winter League at St John’s Secondary School. This happened after winning 9 and only losing 2. The team lost their first 2 games on the first week and then went on to win 9 in a row! The team displayed great resilience throughout. A huge well done to everyone involved! Team captain Bradley commented ‘Having to watch the last game which would decide our position made the whole team nervous. It was very tense!’ Team player Zack said ‘I was praying we would win, because I knew how close the top 4 were!’
Children In Need 2018
Friday 16th November 2018 was Children in Need so Class 5 had over 150 cakes to decorate! The Pudsey colouring competition had lots of entries, so it was hard to choose the winners. I’m sure you can see from the photos that the winning designs were superb. Well done! A wonderful week in school with our work on Anti-Bullying and the theme ‘Respect’ and as an added bonus we raised £260.89 for Children in Need. Thank you to everyone for your support!
