Ofsted Inspection

All parents should have received a copy of the 2012 Ofsted Inspection Report. We were very pleased that the report recognised that this is a good school. All aspects of the school were rated as good which reflects the hard work of the staff and pupils. Thank you to all the parents who supported the school during the inspection and throughout the year.
If you have not received a copy of the report please contact the school office. A copy of the report is attached and it will also be available on the Ofsted website next week.

Ofsted Inspection

Thank you to all the parents who returned their surveys for the Ofsted inspection. Thanks also to those parents who spoke to the Inspector directly. The results of the inspection have not been released yet but all parents will receive a copy after Easter. I must say a great big thank you to all the children as they were brilliant during the inspection. The inspector listened to children read, talked to them in lessons and interviewed groups.
Well done everyone.

Ofsted Inspection

We have had the phone call today from Ofsted to say that we are being inspected on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd March. Parents questionnaires will be sent home tomorrow for you to complete for the inspection.  Thank you for taking time to complete the questionnaires. Ofsted also have a website which includes an online copy of the parent form.

Learning about Fairtrade with Sainsbury's

Making pancakes - click for full size image
On Friday 9th March we were fortunate to have a visit from three staff from our local Sainsbury's store. They came into school to help the children in Class 4 understand about Fairtrade. This work was carried out as part of Fairtrade fortnight and was supported in school by assemblies about Fairtrade. The children were shown a range of Fairtrade products from fruit to flowers and also clothes. They were told how Fairtrade worked by giving fair prices to farmers and shown the Fairtrade logo so they could identify Fairtrade products. They then all had a go at making pancakes and banana ice cream using Fairtrade products. They had a fantastic time and the food they made tasted wonderful. They really enjoyed their activity and had great fun learning. Thank you to Sainsbury's for providing the products for the pancakes and bananas and for spending time with the class.

Bikeability Training

Bikeability training has started for the year 5 pupils. They will be bringing their bicycles to school for the next few weeks on Friday mornings. They will be entering and leaving school via the lane and school car park. Please take care if you are driving near to the children on bicycles. Thank you.

Class 5 Film Editing

Class 5 have been working with King James School ICT staff on film making techniques. They have been travelling to King James on Thursday afternoons and have been learning how to make and then edit films. The latest skills they have been learning is adding additional sound. This has been a brilliant project and the children have really enjoyed learning new skills.

Barnados

We have been collecting money for the Barnados Charity. We have been taking part in a care and share week in school to learn about the importance of caring and sharing. Any money collected should be returned to school in the envelopes on Monday 6th February. Thank you for your support.

Fire Station Visit

As part of their literacy and topic work on Fire, Class 2 went on a visit to the Fire Station on Tuesday 17th January. They had a fantastic time looking at the station, the equipment and the fire engines. The children asked the Fire Officers a range of questions that they had prepared themselves. They had a wonderful time on their visit and learned a lot about staying safe.

Class 4 French Day

On Friday 13th January Class 4 had a French Day in their class. They came to school dressed in the colours of the French flag or in something related to France. They made French ‘sable’ biscuits and tried a range of French foods such as crepes and Quiche Lorraine. They also did some research on French food and found out about the different regions of France.  “The day turned out very well and we all had a fantastic time.” Callie & Imogen

Welcome Back and Happy New Year to everyone

We have had a very good start to the new year in school and the children have settled back into their classes well. We are looking forward to a happy, safe and successful 2012. We have had our SEAL assembly this week about Going for Goals and we have been encouraging the children to aim high and work hard to achieve their own personal goals.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

The staff and governors at Copeland Road Primary School wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very happy, safe and successful New Year. We will be open at the usual time on Wednesday 4th January.

Christmas Events

Thank you for all your support with our Christmas events. The two parties very really well supported and the chidlren had a great time singing, dancing, playing games and eating their food. The Christmas Performances went very well with every ticket quickly taken. The children looked brilliant in their costumes and make up. They sang and performed well on each occasion and they really had a good time. Thank you for buying raffle tickets to help pay for the licences. The service at St Helen Church was well attended and we very much appreciated the coach journey to the church which was provided by King James. The service was very much enjoyed and the children did well with the readings and singing.

Christmas Fair

We had an excellent afternoon at the Christmas Fair. The school looked fantastic and the support of parents and friends was very much appreciated. Thanks to everyone's hard work and generosity we raised just over £1000 for the Friends of School. Thank you all.

Christmas Performances

The demand for tickets for the Christmas performances this year has been so great that we have run out of tickets for both performances. It is pleasing to see that so many parents and friends are eager to see their children perform. Unfortunately it does mean that those people who wanted a number of additional tickets have been unlucky this year.

Last term the after school gardening club carried out a wide variety of activities and had great fun learning about the environment as they went along. The children planted seeds in a pot and took them home during the summer break. This is Catherine and the plant which she has grew and looked after during the summer holidays. Well done Catherine. Gardening club will begin again soon this term.

A brilliant reception!

We have had a great few days in school with our new starters in Reception. They all looked fantastic in their new uniforms and have already settled into school very well. They have been been getting used to the school routines and have been brilliant. This afternoon they came into achiever's assembly and were all very well behaved. A great start by all the class.

Welcome Back

We hope you have all had an enjoyable summer break and we welcome all our pupils back to school on Wednesday 7th September. New starters also start on Wednesday and begin straight away with full days. We wish them all the best as they begin a new stage of their learning here at Copeland Road Primary School. Breakfast club will be on as usual but there will be no after school clubs this week.

Winter Advice and School Closures

The winter is upon us yet again and we all need to be prepared  for the possibility of snow and ice. We will of course make every effort to keep the school open throughout the winter but in severe circumstances it may be necessary to close the school to ensure the health and safety of children and staff. Last year we only closed the school for one day so these occasions are not regular events. In the event of a very heavy snow fall or hazards which may lead to a school closure, we will of course try and let parents know as soon as possible. If we need to close early we will send parents a text via the text system as soon as the decision is made. I am sure you will appreciate we try to wait as long as possible to assess the situation rather than close too soon. Clearly parents need to keep us up to date of their current mobile number for this to be successful. We will also try and update the website as soon as possible and all school closures are also on the Durham County website. We will also inform the local radio stations, we usually contact - Radio Cleveland, Metro and TFM so if you listen to their broadcasts this should keep you updated. You can also ring the school office from 8.30am. This gives us time to assess the weather conditions. If your child attends Breakfast Club it would be sensible on the days of severe weather conditions to delay bringing them to school until the decision is made. If the weather worsens dramatically during the day and we need to close we will again use texts to contact the named parent/carer. Again we need your up to date numbers to ensure your child will be collected promptly.

Winter in school - please ensure that your child is prepared for the winter in school. We still have some children who come to school without a coat and some without sweatshirts/jumpers. Please make sure that your child is well wrapped up throughout the winter, we will try to go out for playtimes and lunchtimes as often as posssible. Warm coats, hats and gloves help the children to stay warm and dry. We also need your child to bring/have appropriate footwear in school during the winter. They need to wear something warm and preferably waterproof such as wellies for ourtdoors and change of shoes for indoors. As you can appreciate we have over a hundred children in school and if they walk around inside school in their outdoor shoes in winter the floors and carpets become wet very quickly. It may also be helpful to have a pair of dry socks in school during the winter months in case the children get their feet wet.
